Gates being made in our Bayswater workshop

Heritage & Decorative Timber Products makes custom timber gates in Bayswater, Melbourne. The assembly photographs show people working on the gates, their scale against the workshop and the joinery before finishing. Gates are made to the opening and design rather than supplied in a single stock width.

Finished gates in different settings

These separate examples show how the finished gate relates to the fence, posts and driveway opening. They are not presented as the installed versions of the workshop gates above. Use the photographs to explain whether you prefer open pickets, a lattice top or more enclosed boarding.

From a photograph to your gate specification

A useful enquiry starts with the clear opening between the posts, the height you want and whether the job needs a single pedestrian gate or a driveway pair. Photograph the fence on both sides, the posts, the ground through the swing and any original detail you want to retain.

  • Label opening measurements separately from finished gate-leaf dimensions.
  • Include any fall in the ground, desired swing direction and planned automation or hardware.
  • Send a preferred design or photographs of the existing frontage, plus the delivery postcode.

Our current gate range uses LOSP H3 treated pine for external above-ground use. Confirm the material and final specification for your chosen design in the written quote. Posts, hardware allowances, fixing and any automation requirements need to be settled for the actual site; the photographs do not establish a universal gate size or installation specification.

Compare the custom timber gate designs, read how to measure a gate opening and follow the painting and care guidance.
