Choosing Federation timber brackets
For a Federation or Victorian verandah, compare the bracket with the existing post-to-beam junction rather than choosing by the period name alone. Record its width, drop and thickness, then compare the CB profile drawings and listed sizes. Our catalogue corner brackets are fixed-size designs; EB eaves brackets fit a different position under the roof overhang.
For a missing or decayed detail, send photographs or a sample so the workshop can assess the closest pattern and any matching enquiry. Check the corner bracket sizes and prices, compare the adjoining verandah post and fretwork panel, and include the quantity and delivery postcode. Confirm fixing details with your installer and prepare and prime the timber before installation.

Are corner brackets made to my size?
No. Corner brackets are supplied at fixed sizes — you choose the pattern that suits your bay, rather than commissioning one. That is not a limitation, it is why they are quick to supply and why the price is predictable. If nothing in the range fits, ask about our custom made designs instead, but do not assume a CB code can be scaled.
What sizes does the corner bracket range come in?
The range spans a wide spread — from about 190mm across at the smallest to 610 x 475mm at the largest. The smallest priced code is CB11ES; CB14ES, at 190 x 190mm, is a further extra-small Heritage & Decorative Timber Products makes that is not yet on the printed price list. The largest is CB32 at 610 x 475mm, with CB30 at 600 x 230mm close behind and CB10 having the longest single edge. Between them sit the working sizes most verandahs use: CB26 at 225 x 225mm, CB22 at 280 x 280mm, CB15 at 280 x 450mm, CB23 at 200 x 400mm, CB11 at 300 x 460mm, CB25 and CB6S, CB9S and CB11S all at 325 x 325mm, CB24 at 325 x 455mm, CB14 at 400 x 425mm, CB29 at 420 x 420mm, CB27 at 420 x 430mm, CB9 at 430 x 480mm, CB6 at 440 x 530mm, CB8 and CB33 at 450 x 450mm, and CB13 at 455 x 495mm. Our own records differ on the exact figures for CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4, CB6ES, CB11ES, CB12 and CB21, so ring 03 9720 1996 to confirm one of those before you order. The CBMETRO is a smart home style bracket at 500 x 300mm. The patterns are photographed close up, which is the quickest way to shortlist before you read a dimension.

Why do the numbers skip?
Because the range grew over decades and retired patterns were not renumbered. There is no CB5, and nothing between CB16 and CB20. The gaps are real — nobody should try to fill them, and a quote asking for CB17 will come back unmatched.
What are the S and ES versions?
Several patterns are made in more than one scale, so you can keep the same design across a large and a small opening. CB6 comes as standard, small (CB6S) and extra small (CB6ES); CB11 the same way (CB11S, CB11ES); CB9 and CB14 come standard and small (CB9S at 325 x 325mm; CB14S is the small CB14), and CB14 also has an extra small at 190 x 190mm. CB10 has a small version, CB10S. As a rule, a pair of brackets should not close up much more than a third of the bay — wide bays and heavy beams take the big patterns, a cottage frontage takes an S or ES.

What eaves brackets do you make?
Six patterns, EB1 to EB6, all made at the same size, 42mm dressed. They are a compact bracket for hanging under any eave, and one of the least expensive ways to bring character back to a stripped roofline.
What are the brackets made from?
Our corner brackets and eaves brackets are made from LOSP H3 treated pine, Australian made. The post-to-beam junction is exactly where rainwater sits and where an untreated bracket fails first, so the H3 rating matters more here than almost anywhere on the building. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, our brackets carry our 25 year guarantee. Prime all six faces with two thin coats of oil-based primer before fixing, then topcoat. If you are replacing a decayed original, ask about our timber-profile matching service — send a photograph or the old bracket. Call 03 9720 1996.

How to compare a bracket with your existing verandah
Choose the position first: a corner bracket belongs at the post-to-beam junction, while an eaves bracket sits under the eave. Measure the space available along both edges and record the thickness of the original. A photograph of the bracket in place shows its orientation and relationship to the beam; a second photograph square-on beside a tape helps compare the outline.
Use the gallery to shortlist the pattern, then check the actual code and fixed dimensions. Standard, S and ES versions are separate choices; choosing a similar pattern does not mean it can be scaled to any opening. For codes with conflicting recorded dimensions, confirm the size with the workshop before ordering. If the original cannot be matched from the catalogue, use the custom timber matching enquiry and include the original piece, drawing or photographs. Decorative pattern selection does not establish a structural support specification.
Compare the selected code on the corner and eaves bracket price list, then request a bracket quote with the code, quantity and delivery postcode. For a replacement, include a photograph in place and a square-on photograph beside a tape measure so the workshop can check the outline and orientation.

Product and ordering questions
Are corner brackets made to order, or are they fixed sizes?
Corner brackets are supplied in fixed sizes. There are twenty-seven designs, several of them also offered in small and extra-small versions of the same pattern, which is why the price list carries thirty-three codes for the twenty-seven designs - so you choose the bracket that suits the bay rather than commissioning one. The numbering is not continuous, and a missing code is a retired pattern.
What is the difference between a corner bracket and an eaves bracket?
A corner bracket fits at the top of a verandah post, filling the angle where the post meets the beam. An eaves bracket sits under the eave itself, spaced along the roofline, and is a much smaller, shallower piece.
Where can corner brackets be used?
They are the perfect way to dress up any plain porch, patio or verandah area, and are great for use on gazebos, carports and lychgates as well.
Decorative components on the workshop bench
This original photograph shows a craftsperson handling a run of pierced timber components on the bench. The repeated outlines and cut details can be seen before painting. No exact catalogue code or named installation is assigned to this photograph.

For a documented installed corner-bracket example, the Peverell House original brochure record identifies CB-22 brackets alongside V4 posts and base mouldings. It is a separate project from the bench photograph. Keep an old bracket or send front-on photographs and dimensions when asking the workshop to match a detail.
