The corner bracket fills the angle where a verandah post meets the beam it carries. It is the smallest component on a verandah and the one that does the most work visually: a plain post-and-beam frame reads as new construction, and a bracket in that angle is usually all it takes to stop it.

Are corner brackets made to order?

No — and this is the thing most people get wrong about them. Corner brackets come at fixed sizes. You choose the bracket that suits the bay rather than commissioning one to fit it.

That changes how you order. With fretwork you measure the span and Heritage & Decorative Timber Products makes the panel to it. With a bracket you measure the space in the angle and pick from the range. It is also why brackets are quick — a fixed-size item is in production, not in a queue.

How many designs are there?

Twenty-seven corner bracket designs, numbered CB1 to CB33 — the numbering is gapped, because there is no CB5 and nothing between CB16 and CB20, so a code you cannot find is a retired pattern rather than an omission. Four designs come in more than one size, which is why the price list carries thirty-three codes for twenty-seven designs. The smallest is around 190mm across and the largest 610 x 475mm. Eaves brackets are a separate, smaller family — EB1 to EB6 — and they do a different job: they hang beneath the eaves along the side of a building rather than sitting in the post-to-beam angle.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure the clear space in the angle: how far along the beam you can run, and how far down the post. A bracket wants to sit comfortably inside both without crowding the corner — as a rule, take the largest bracket that leaves clear space around it rather than the largest that will physically fit. On a wide bay, a bracket that is too small simply disappears.

If you are matching brackets already on the house, photograph one square-on with a tape measure across it, and send the measurements of the angle it sits in.

What are they made from?

LOSP H3 treated pine, Australian made. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, our corner brackets and eaves brackets carry our 25 year guarantee. Prime with two thin coats of oil-based primer on all six sides before they go up — brackets have a lot of cut edge and end grain for their size, and that is where water gets in.
