When do people need custom work?
Three situations account for most of it:
- Matching something that already exists. A Victorian terrace has eleven verandah posts and one has rotted out. The profile was never a catalogue item, or it was a hundred years ago. We cut the twelfth to match the eleven.
- A size the standard range does not cover. Our posts run 88 x 88mm, 112 x 112mm and 135 x 135mm at 2.4m to 3.6m; fretwork and balustrade are made to the span. If your opening, ceiling height or bay width falls outside what is standard, the part is made to your measurements rather than cut down.
- A design of your own. Architects and designers send drawings. Furniture makers send a section they need run. If it can be turned, moulded, cut or assembled from timber, it is worth asking.
How does it work?
- Send what you have — a photograph, a drawing, a sketch on paper, or the original piece. The original is best. A photograph square-on with a tape measure in the frame is a close second.
- We tell you whether it can be done, and quote it. Quotes are free. Send the dimensions, preferred timber, quantity and delivery destination so we can confirm the manufacturing and freight price.
- We make it and deliver it, to your home or to site, anywhere in Australia.
Short-run timber-profile matching
We assess timber matching requests from a photograph, drawing or sample, including a replacement verandah post or a run of architraves, skirting and mouldings. Small runs are normal work here. Our most competitive pricing is for matching runs under 150 lineal metres. We quote each job from its profile, material and quantity, whether you need one replacement or a longer run.
For the details to photograph and measure, see our guides to matching a damaged verandah post and matching an old timber moulding profile.
What should I send for a matching quote?
- A surviving sample where possible, a drawing, or clear square-on photographs with a ruler or tape measure in the same plane as the timber.
- The profile width and thickness, or the overall size and finished height of the piece. Show any curved or turned details clearly.
- The total lineal metres for a moulding run, or the number of individual pieces required.
- The timber or finish you want, and whether the piece will be used indoors or outdoors. If you are unsure, tell us where it is going.
- Your delivery postcode and whether you want delivery or workshop collection.
Send your matching enquiry. Quotes are free; the workshop checks the details before confirming manufacture and freight.
What can be made to order?
Turned work — posts, newels, droppers, finials, post knobs and capitals, corbels. Cut and shaped work — fretwork and frieze panels, eaves brackets, gable infills, decorative relief and barge boards, shaped and curved rafters. Assembled work — gates, lych gates, screen doors, balustrade panels, window canopies, arches, privacy screens, fire surrounds and radiator covers, fencing. Moulded work — architraves, skirtings and curved mouldings run to a matched profile.
Our catalogue corner brackets are supplied at fixed sizes, rather than made to measure.

Look inside our Bayswater workshop to see the machinery and working areas behind the range. The photographs on this page show timber work outside the standard catalogue; use them to describe the detail you need, and send your own sample or measurements so the workshop can assess your job.
What timber?
LOSP H3 treated pine is the default for external work, and external LOSP H3 used above ground carries our 25 year guarantee. Interior work is made in clear (untreated) pine or MDF, and stairs are also made in Merbau and CCA-treated pine — none of which the 25 year guarantee covers. Tell us where the piece is going and we will tell you what it should be made from.

Product and ordering questions
Do you make timber products that are not in your standard range?
Yes. If we do not stock a product in our standard range we also offer custom made products to suit your size and style requirements. All our products are hand and machine crafted in Australia using the finest timber materials.
Can I get a quote for matching timber?
Yes. Quotes are free. Send a photograph, drawing or sample of the timber you want to match, with dimensions, material, quantity and delivery destination. The workshop confirms the details before quoting manufacture and delivery.
Do you offer short-run timber-profile matching?
Yes. Heritage can match timber work from a photograph, drawing or sample, including replacement verandah posts, architraves, skirting and mouldings. Our most competitive pricing is for matching runs under 150 lineal metres. This is a pricing focus, not a minimum order or a limit on the timber work we can match.
What should I send for a matching quote?
Send a sample, drawing or square-on photographs with a ruler or tape measure for scale; the profile width and thickness or overall finished size; total lineal metres or number of pieces; the timber or finish and indoor or outdoor use; and your delivery postcode or workshop collection preference. Quotes are free. The workshop checks the details before confirming manufacture and freight.
