Hardly anybody rings up asking for a corner bracket. They ring up asking for the curly bit under the verandah post, and that is a perfectly good way to order one.
But if you would rather work it out first, here are two photographs of real houses with every timber part marked. Pick a number and you get the trade name, what it does, the product code and the page to order it from.

Nine numbers are marked on the street front and nine under the verandah. Four parts appear on both photographs, so those eighteen numbers name fourteen different parts. The remaining fifteen of the twenty-nine are in the range below.

The turning at the apex of a gable, where the two barge boards meet. It also finishes a lych gate, a porch gable or a cubby house.

Fills the triangle of the gable above the wall plate. Made to your pitch, so your roof does not have to be a standard one.

The small bracket repeated at intervals along the underside of the eaves or the frieze board. Bought by the run, not the pair.

The shaped rafter that gives a verandah roof its profile, running from the wall out over the posts. Cut to any radius to suit the roll of roofing.

Fills the angle where the post head meets the beam. The same bracket dresses a gazebo, a carport, a pergola or a lych gate, and doubles as a shelf bracket.

The flat cut panel that runs the full span between the posts, set as a continuous band under the beam. Deeper than fretwork, and the piece most people mean when they say “lace”.

The cut panel hung under the beam between two post heads, often arched. Ours is cut timber, not cast iron, so it takes paint and does not rust.

The turned post carrying the verandah beam and roof. It stands on the deck or a stirrup, and takes the corner bracket and the frieze either side of its head. All eight designs are Federation.

Caps the top of a post or a fence post. Flat bottomed, so it sits straight down on the post with no joint to cut.

A dropper is the half-turning fixed to a wall or a post where a full post will not fit, finishing the end of a frieze or balustrade run. A newel is the full post that starts, turns or ends a run of balustrade or a stair flight.

The panel filling the gap between posts along a verandah, a deck or a stair flight. It arrives fully assembled, as a panel, ready to fix — not as a box of sticks.

The rail along the top of a balustrade, rebated on the underside so the assembled panel drops straight into it.

The rail under the balusters, rebated to match the handrail above so the panel is captured top and bottom. The fillet fills the rebate where it would otherwise show.

A small roof over a window or a door. Shade in summer, shelter from rain in winter, and it takes load off the heating and cooling. The shaped ends are sold singly, so a canopy takes two.

A roofed entry gate over a front path — the gate, its posts and a small pitched roof, usually finished with a finial and corner brackets. Wrought iron gate tops, peep-hole inserts and rosettes are available with it.

A fixed decorative panel that screens a courtyard, a balcony, a deck or an air-conditioning unit while still letting light and air through. These are fixed panels, not doors.

The stepped centre spine that runs up the middle of a wide flight, under the treads and between the two outer stringers, so the treads do not flex underfoot. You cannot see it once the stair is built. Needed once a stair is over 1200mm wide, and already included in a complete kit at that width.

The cut panel set across an internal opening — a hallway, a doorway between two rooms, an alcove. Scaled to your opening rather than cut down from a fixed panel.

The moulding that frames a door or a window, and the board along the bottom of the wall. Curved and arched work is the awkward one, and it is the one the workshop is set up for — any internal or external radius, matched to a profile you already have.

The block that turns the corner of an architrave so the mitre does not have to. Period joinery used them everywhere, and they forgive an out-of-square opening. Round turned rosettes finish the cut end of a gable fascia outside.

The shaped bracket that carries a shelf, a canopy, a mantelpiece or a bench return. Turned or carved.

What it is made from
Everything is Australian made, in Bayswater. Four rules cover the whole range, and they are worth reading once because customers get the last one wrong more than any other.
Every product is LOSP H3 treated pine unless the page says hardwood, Merbau or MDF.
Clear pine is not treated pine. Corbels are clear pine, made for staining or painting.
25 year guarantee on all external LOSP H3 treated pine products used above ground. All three parts of that sentence matter: external, LOSP H3, above ground.
Internal fretwork is an 18mm MDF insert in a clear pine frame. It is for inside the house and it carries no guarantee. External fretwork is treated pine and does. They look alike in a photograph and they are not the same product.
