Most of what Heritage & Decorative Timber Products supplies leaves the workshop already assembled — which is the point of this page. A balustrade is not a bag of balusters. It arrives as a finished panel, and understanding what is in that panel is most of what you need to order one.
What is in an assembled balustrade panel?
Three parts, top to bottom:
- The handrail across the top. HR1 and HR2 are the two profiles, rebated along the underside to receive the balusters.
- The balusters between — turned or square, depending on the design.
- The base rail below, BR2ASL, doing the same job as the handrail in reverse.
The panels come as designs BS1, BS2, BS4, BS5 and BS6, and several are also supplied as kits (BS485KIT, BS565KIT, BS585KIT, BS665KIT). BS4 can take optional motif inserts.
Because the panel is assembled here, the thing you order is a length between posts, not a count of balusters. Give us the clear distance from post to post and the height you need, and the spacing is worked out at this end.
Can you make a curved balustrade?
Yes — and that is what the workshop photographs on this page show. A curved balustrade is set out full size on the floor first, because the only way to get a true sweep is to draw it at 1:1 and build to the drawing. The handrail and base rail are then made to that curve rather than bent on site.
Curved work is made to order. Send the radius if you know it; if you do not, a full-size template or a set of measurements along the curve will do.
What is it made from?
LOSP H3 treated pine for external balustrade. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, it carries our 25 year guarantee. Prime all six sides with oil-based primer before installation — including the rebates, which are the hardest place to reach afterwards and the easiest place for water to sit.

Prepare your balustrade assembly enquiry
Use the photographs to compare straight panels, curved assemblies and baluster details. For a quote, record each clear span between fixing faces, the number of runs, the panel design and the handrail size. Photograph the full opening and any original detail you want matched.
For a curve, supply a radius if known, a full-size template or measurements along the curve. The workshop will confirm the finished dimensions before manufacture. Check the installation and compliance requirements for your site with your builder.
