Timber Balustrade, Base Rail & Handrail Prices
Everything on this page is priced per lineal metre except the individual components, which are priced each. That is the first thing to understand about balustrade pricing: you are buying a length of verandah, not a number of balusters.

- 25 year guarantee — on external LOSP H3 treated pine, above ground

- Timber-profile matching — from a photograph, drawing or sample
The five patterns
- BS1 — slat balusters. Nine 42 x 19mm slats per lineal metre. The plainest and most common of the five.
- BS2 — nine 42 x 42mm balusters per lineal metre. Made assembled or as a kit; it is the one pattern not offered flight-assembled to a stair angle.
- BS4 — the BS1 slat panel with two decorative motifs per lineal metre worked into it. Motifs come in seven designs, A to G.
- BS5 — nine turned balusters per lineal metre, 42 x 42mm. The traditional Victorian look.
- BS6 — nine square balusters per lineal metre, 42 x 42mm. Cleaner and more Federation than BS5, and it suits a modern deck as readily as a period verandah.

Three ways to buy — two for BS2
Kit form. The parts, for you to assemble and cut to your openings. The cheapest option and the most work.
Level assembled. The panel built in the Heritage & Decorative Timber Products workshop, square, evenly spaced, ready to drop between your posts. Assembled panels are made 900mm overall, and are photographed being set out in the workshop.
Flight assembled. The same panel assembled on the rake, to suit your stair angle. This is the one to order for stairs — see our flight balustrade page for what to send us.
Which handrail — HR1 or HR2?
BS1, BS4, BS5 and BS6 are each priced twice, once with each handrail, and the price table is split into two blocks accordingly. BS2 is priced as one assembled panel and one kit.
HR1 is the smaller of the two rails: a neat section that suits a lighter balustrade or a shorter run. HR2 is 85 x 65mm — a substantially heavier rail that gives a stronger top line and a proper hand-hold. On a long frontage or a wide stair, HR2 is usually the better-looking choice, and it is why the same BS pattern appears at two different rates.
Both rails carry a standard rebate of 19mm wide x 12mm deep for the balusters. The matching base rail is BR2ASL, priced per lineal metre.
Components, sold individually
If you are repairing rather than replacing, or building the panel yourself, everything is available separately and priced each: slat balusters (42 x 19 x 1000mm), motif balusters A to G (90 x 19 x 1000mm), square balusters and turned balusters (both 42 x 42 x 1000mm), and fillets in two sizes for packing out the rebate. Newel posts are not on this list: N4 and N5 newel rates sit with the droppers and corbels.

How to measure
Measure the clear opening between posts, at each bay, and add them up — that is your lineal metres. Do not measure the full frontage and subtract later; old verandah posts are rarely evenly spaced and the bays often differ by 20 or 30mm. Note the finished height you need and whether any bay is on the rake.
Balustrade heights and baluster spacings are set by the building code for your situation. Confirm them with your builder or surveyor before you order — an assembled panel is built to a height and cannot be adjusted afterwards.
Timber and guarantee
Treated pine. As external LOSP H3 treated pine used above ground, our balustrade carries a 25 year guarantee. Prime all faces with oil-based primer before installation and keep the paint film sound — including the rebates and the bottom of every baluster, where water sits.
Custom sizes and other species on request. Free quotes. Send a photograph, drawing or sample for matching work. Australian made, delivered Australia-wide. Call 03 9720 1996.
